Frizz Records presents Parade
Thursday the 1st of march
9:00pm until 11:30pm
£3 suggested donation
Hopefully it won't be so cold outside for our lucky 7th PARADE party...but it will definitely be warm & inviting inside...
After giving you a taster back in
December we've asked RENU & her extraordinary band back for a full
length set. Renu herself is a sought after percussionist with a CV
including Grace Jones, State of Bengal & Alabama 3, and this is her
brand new project as composer & band leader...expect genre hopping
madness, with theremin, strings & opera singing & a punk
energy...
Also back by popular demand is VEDINA MOSÉ, currently
putting the finishing touches to her much anticipated debut solo album
(after singing lead vocals on AUGUST's 'It's Not The Wand, It's The
Magic', released on Frizz back in '09, as well as singing with Manu Chao
& Art Terry among others). Vedina describes her sound as 'kitchen
sink cabaret soul'...expect an organic & compelling mix of pretty
melody, daring vocal experimentation, soul, chanson & African
rhythms...
And giving us her final live performance before she
heads home to Japan is KAORU NODA. We'll be sad to see her go, in the
short time she's been in London she's become a part of the Frizz family,
and we're looking forward to helping her record her 'London LP' before
she leaves. She'll be playing songs from that as well as her Japanese
debut 'Anohi No Uta'...expect gorgeous 60s/70s pop inspired piano songs
with sweet & souful vocals...a Japanese Joni Mitchell...
Making their PARADE debut we're pleased to welcome THE HICS, brand new
brainchild of Florence & The Machine & Art Terry collaborator
Sam Paul Evans - stepping out from behind the drum kit to sing, play
guitar, & drop strange & beautiful samples into the mix of
skittering rhythms & pulsing synths...expect warped soulfulness in
the vein of James Blake & Jamie XX...
And of course no
PARADE is complete without a nightcap from Frizz's own ART TERRY. He's
brought us everything from 'Gospel Porno Funk' to 'Electro-Classical
Chamber Music'...and what he'll be bringing us this time we're not quite
sure yet... Whatever incarnation he comes to us in though, we know
we'll get melodic songwriting of the highest order, adventurous
arrangements & Mr Terry's magnetic personality...
...as
always, I'll be DJ-ing and inviting some special guests to join me in
joining the dots with everything from High Life to Hip Hip, Doo Wop to
Disco, Reggae to Ragtime...
Doors open at 7, and the life music
starts not long after. Last time we reached capacity pretty quicky, so
it's a good idea to turn up as early as you can to make sure you get in,
and don't miss any of this amazing music!
